Vultures View Handover Of Cheque

Over the past year, the Vulture Programme has established a good working relationship with Eskom. Through this collaborative work, it is hoped to save many vultures from power line electrocutions and collisions around the Magaliesberg region extending into the Cradle and World Heritage Site - basically extending to cover the Magaliesberg Cape Vulture foraging range. In order to make these power lines 'bird-friendly' Eskom needs to erect appropriate tower and line configurations along the power lines which will prevent or limit electrocutions from occuring. Aberdare Cables is one of the main suppliers to Eskom and through their involvement with Eskom; Aberdare has now come on board to support vulture conservation, extending their support to the Vulture Programme and their commitment towards preserving our natural heritage by means of the Cape Vulture. This financial support is just the beginning of this 3-way partnership to ensure the safety of our vultures on power lines.   This partnership promises to grow into the future and is hoped that the Magaliesberg Power line Risk Assessment will be used as an example what needs to be done throughout the rest of South Africa.

Mr Sipithi Sibeko, Executive Director Marketing of Aberdare Cables wisely commented, “That in order for communities to be made aware that vultures are definitely not clairvoyant and have no powers for getting the correct lotto numbers and any other “seeing into the future” visions, much education needs to be done.”
